Preface
Throughout the duration of the Bush administration, Americans have endured some of the toughest times of the modern era. The destruction of the twin towers on nine eleven, the start of a war in Iraq, and an economic surplus gone to waste. These issues and many more are what our next president, Barack Obama, has to face when he is sworn into office come January. I have come to ask myself, despite being an Obama supporter, what if someone else had won the presidential race? Not just McCain, but the other running candidates before the party nomination. Which set of policies that each did running member have, and most important of all…which candidate would have been best to remedy the follies of the Bush Administration?
The faults of the Bush Administration
The list is almost endless on the issues and events that took place during George W. Bush’s eight-year reign that were faulty or ill played: 9/11, Katrina, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, the economy, the environment... all of which fall under the list [www.Alternet.org]. Most people associate Bush’s presidency over America, with our current war in Iraq. We have dumped so much time, money, and lives into this war, and yet I am still unaware of why we are even in there. Apparently, it is because of weapons of mass destruction, at least that was our first goal. Then, we decided to take out the only person who was holding Iraq together because we wanted democracy to prevail or something along those lines. Our new goal in Iraq is to establish a stable government there. According to Nancy Pelosi, the Iraq was as a failure that has “not produce the desired effect” [www.politico.com]. It has been said that Iraq is in prime contest with Vietnam, as the most hated war (fought by Americans). It has also been one of the biggest drains on our economy. There is a seemingly endless amount of dirt one can dig up on Bush, but what has happened has happened and now it is time to move into the future.
