If you want to know how good a character is I might be of assistance, knowing I've beaten the game all the way through over ten times. (No lie). As for uncovering secret levels, well... besides the one concerning Nils I am not sure... but I am pretty knowledgeable about how to unlock characters... like the elusive Karla (my previous avatar).
Anyway I might not be much help when it comes to defeating certain levels, but I know some pretty good guys you might want to try out that might seem useless at the start.
Post comments if you will...
I think I am talking about the right game... Fire Emblem Seven is the one with Lyn and Hector and Eliwood.

My (new thirteenth run through is going smoothly...) and since I am playing through the game again I might want to post what I am doing so other fire emblem fans, or people who just can't beat the freaking game or have no fire emblem skill whatsoever, can try this out. [Note: This is a Lyn Hard mode/Eliwood hard mode run so please bear that in mind when using this for strategic purposes.] Lyn mode: The best way to describe my strategy, or any of my strategies I use while doing Lyn mode, [Preferably hard], is I concentrate on units that will be most useful in the next tale. [Either Eliwood or Hector mode]. For this run I decided to forsake Kent and Sain all together and this gives Lyn an unnecessary boost. [Because the level of your characters in Lyn's tale carry over to the next tale]. So anyway I am just going to skim over stuff here...ah yes, so the first three chapters were soloed by Lyn. Then chapter four is when your buddy Wil and Florina appear. This run was special for me because I wanted to focus on Florina. The best thing to do is to kill any sword wielders with her, and be mindful of archers in this map. I was thinking of using Wil, but overall I ended up ditching him because I only got him to level 5 by the time I got to the end of the game. Anyway, I believe it is the next chapter you get Dorcus on your team right? Make sure you put Florina over to the right! I am serious, that constant spawn of wimpy little sword dudes is great experience for her and she needs ever drop of it she can get. . Remember during this entire time I am not using Kent or Sain. I've never been a Dorcus fan so he just hangs out and then onto the next chapter when you get Serra and Erk. For this run I used Serra in every mission as well as Erk, I am still undecided at this point as to whether or not I am going to use Serra, but because my Erk out did my Wil, ultimately I will be having him in my main party. I killed the boss with Erk, so he gained XP from that... Then what level next? Is it the Mathew and Rath level? I've done this like a billion times and yet I can't remember the simple order. Oh well, surprisingly I ended up having a good Mathew. I continued to train Florina and not Lyn so much because she was already my highest level unit. I haven't been a Rath fan ever since I read that he is mediocre in the end so I ditch him [Not kill, just don't use you know...]. I think I killed the boss with Erk... onto the next chapter, Siblings aboard I think it is. I took Florina down, over the mountains and killed the two shaman right away... Did some stuff with Erk and Mathew... ended up killing the boss with Lyn in the right amount of turns to unlock the bonus chapter. In the bonus chapter I used Erk quite a bit, along with Mathew and Florina Fairly simple really... all you need to do is think about the weapon triangle and you usually don't go wrong. Next level is the one with the cannon archer thingy Ballista! I can't spell oh well. Without Kent or Sain to act your defense, I just threw Lyn in the trees and healed her with the healing Salve. Once the archer ran out of bolts, I flew Florina down, while Erk took out the right group, which included a bandit, a shaman and a mage. I used Florina on the Axereaver, and Lyn on everyone else I think. Fairly simple you know.
Are we really at the fog mission already? Wow that is cool. Even if I did miss one it is okay. This one I had some trouble on because Erk ran out of fire right off the bat. In the end I Wallace KO'd that sorry bastard Eagler. While using Mathew in the fortress in the center of the map after I had a tight situation. Just play it safe...and Florina did some flying around... y'know it is easy. Final battle. Lyndis Ko on Lundgren by attack him with an Axe, [Wallace weakened I mean to say] and Erk used magic on the side and Lyndis finished him off...
END OF LYN MODE HARD! Contrats if you passed for the first time, sorry if you failed and gave up. Hey it is less annoying than Lyn easy mode when they tell you what to do all the time.
Anyway Eliwood mode, hard.
First chapter:
Forsake Marcus right off the bat by giving Eliwood the steel sword, and just have Lowen sit back. For this run I had Rebecca take a seat as well. Use Marcus as a shield though. He will be a fairly good shield/rescuer for quite some time. [Especially in those annoying missions you know...] Have Eliwood and Bartre do all of the killing. That is it for this chapter.
Chapter two:
From the bottom of the map send either Lowen or Dorcus to retrieve the special item that is hidden in the village, and have Rebeca gather some extra healing salves from the vendor. Then use Marcus [Without any weapons] as a shield and have Eliwood and Bartre lead. I found that my Eliwood was extremely useful, especially since there were no lance guys on the southern side of the map. I did have a few close calls so be careful in tight situations. When Hector appears at the top with Oswin, I put Oswin up in the corner and I managed to defeat all of the guys on top with just Hector. Then there was only a bit of clean up left.
Chapter three:
Also known as the level with Guy in it. This level has the appearance of a fairly challenging level, but that is mostly because people rush down to fast, and then they have to talk to guy in the middle of a swarm. This is how I did it, [somehow]. I sent Eliwood and Bartre on their own renegade mission to the west side across the river and into the village to get the special mission with that merchant dude. Then I put a weaponless Marcus and Oswin down into the massive red zone. Stay clear of Guy's line of sight, and wait it out. What I ended up doing was killing ever last one of those guys with Hector and Mathew, using a few vunleray, and with Serra healing from a safe distance [Like retreating them one at a time]... after the spawn ended and the units were dead, that left the lure with Marcus-- and Mathew to talk to Guy. Eliwood and Bartre were long finished by the time the entire Mathew and Hector battle was done. Boss KO was done by Hector giving him a small boost.
Chapter 3x:
This is the level where it is all dark and you have to protect Merlinus for so many turns. I don't really have a strategy for this level. It is one of those levels I don't like. Basically I rescued with Marcus and brought him below. All I really did was have a mixture of my stronger units sit in the middle and fight... I had my powered up Mathew exterminate bandits on the right island area. [The place with the two fortresses]. Be wary of using non-Hector axe units [Bartre] because there are a massive amount of swordsmen, who will come out of the fog and make a safe situations fatal. [Yeah I failed the first time within minutes because my Bartre got sniped].
Chapter 4:
This level was fun because I didn't even use Oswin and I still owned! I used weaponless Marcus to rescue my already powered Erk, and used Serra to convert him to my side. Using Hector and Bartre I demolished those wimpy lance users on the far right. Then with Guy and Mathew I sent them to mainly combat the soon to come pirate spawn on the southern islands. Things were a little iffy on the south end of the battlefield after a while. When Hector and Bartre were done I sent them out to help with the oncoming Calvary, always aiming towards that southern village in which Priscilla lies. You can visit the village with anyone, and she will join your team as a mounted healer unit. Make sure you stock up on weapons and other tools for obliterating your enemies. From that point onward, I had Eliwood, who stayed behind to watch my merchant tent with Serra, finish off the oncoming bandits with some help from Mathew and Guy. I think I finished off the boss with a mixture of Hector and Erk, and that was it.
Chapter 5:
You are going to have fun if your Lyn and Florina are well powered up from Lyn mode. I know I was a little disappointed in Florina, but I had to remember that they took away her iron lance and replaced it with a freaking javelin. I didn't use Marcus or Oswin... mainly focusing on forming a wall with Eliwood and Hector as my leaders, and Lyn as another. . I focused on swordsmen with Florina, being my main lance unit at this time. I ended up gaining bonus experience by sniping that last minute horsemen spawn with Erk, Mathew and Florina, [with Serra as healer support]. I ended up Lyn + Hector killing Bauker, and ended the mission quite pleased with my new additions.
Chapter 6:
The most important thing in this mission is to bring a thief, like Mathew, so you can swipe the hero's crest, silver sword, Knights crest, and the unlock staff. Bring Priscilla as well so you can talk to Raven, and get Lucius. [Also rescue one of the guards, so you can get the special level....] Make sure you send people down when the horse spawn comes. I think I used Hector to KO the boss, especially since I had the hammer. It was fairly simple, I even took the time to open up the archer gate and killing all of those annoying archers.
Chapter 6x:
Send Lyn up the nearest alleyway, and when Fargus calls you all Moonclaves get ready to heal Lyn. [Don't stand directly behind her because of Killer bow sniper and dark magic user and elfire mage. With the silver sword, you can kill the entire pirate swarm, and it wont take long to clear them out. Even that random paladin is no match for the Lyn God of death. [Use Mani Katti on him and he should go down easily enough]. I personally used a mine [despite the criticism I might get for it later] . Despite having cleared out every last pirate scum in the port except for Fargus and Dart, [don't kill those guys obviously], I did not arena abuse because my guys are already fairly decent and well leveled. SO... onto the pirate ship level.
