Prologue
"When we were younger, you were always so weak... such a child..."
The wind had died down by this time, and the forest trees had stopped swaying. Everything was still in the dark night, even the usual babble of the nearby river was silent. Isolated on a small river island was a tiny wooden cottage, a thin, barely visible stream of smoke lifted from its chimney. Nearby, sitting alone but indulged in his own thoughts was a young man robed in a blue cloak. His short brown hair was growing now, nearly covering his forehead but he stared into an empty space, dark eyes concentrating on a moment.
The art of meditation is to think of nothing... to clear your mind...
His grandfather's words echoed inside of his head. He had yet to clear his mind, for images of his friend, vibrated. His name was Kalej Ishari-- his father had been a famed warrior, and his mother was one of the Shader races. It was only his friend who had known of his heritage, and it was his friend who had become his greatest enemy. He had matured in an instant, when his family had been destroyed. His mother had been burned alive, much like the witches of old, and his father, cast down by grief preformed ritual suicide as a warrior should. The swordsman who had delivered the blow, and taken in Kalej in secret, and thus it had been created- a friendship between the swordsman son, and Kalej. However he was weak--Kalej was. He was sent to Drakes Academy, in an attempt to understand how to fight better-- but he became one of the worst in his class. His friend had always stood up for him in till one day they were forced to fight-- it was destiny that it happen this way.
Five years previously,
"Come on Kalej, show us what you can do, little runt!!" the voice was harsh, just as Kalej would've thought it to be. His father's former glory did not wash on speck on him, and he knew this. Instead of blossoming into an arrogant revengeful maniac, Kalej had become a introverted quiet-type. He did not seek the violence that had plagued his dreams. He had been scarred by the memories of his mother's death, having witnessed them personally. Nobody cared, nobody even gave a second thought about it. She was evil and that is why she had been burned alive.
"Leave him alone you dirty wretches!" this voice came to Kalej's defense, his only friend, Alkar. "The Ishari name has forever been a forsaken one!" someone called out and the kids began to shout again throwing rocks and other things at poor Kalej. The school loomed behind the scene, the sun was setting and Kalej merely shook his head. He knew that Alkar was the best student in the entire school... he knew that Alkar could beat up this entire lot-- but he did not want it, no he wanted to be left alone. "Come on... let me take you on!" Alkar challenged the other kids who just shrugged and walked away.
"You shouldn't be associating yourself with such a weakling Alkar, it will lessen your senses..." a calm voice broke out and there was a man, tall in stature standing before them. His hair was long, brown in color and his eyes... black spheres of malice. He stared fondly at Alkar though, and Kalej already knew why it was.
The memory faded.
'five years have passed since I last saw Alkar... and his damn Tessen-Sensei. Yet these memories plague me still... like I should've done something! I should have stopped them... but then...' his mind paused for a moment, there was a break in thoughts, a disturbance in the silence. There across the river!
His hand instinctively fell to his sword and then he saw who it was standing on the other side of the river bed. It was man, tall dark in nature, yet his eyes were much different than Tessen's. "It has been too long of a time, kalej..."
Chapter one: The Academy has fallen...
The two of them sat inside of the small cottage, both wearing navy robes and enjoying a small meal. It had been a long time since they had been in the same room together, master and student reunited at a critical juncture.
"Kalej, you have been out here all of this time?" the man asked raising a cup of warm tea to his lips and the other man nodded, "Yes, Master Soren, I had... to find myself..." Kalej said, speaking to his former school master, who had inherited the school from the former. General Byaku was apparently the son of Drake himself, allowing Soren to be the third master was quite a surprise to most. "You should have lived with your old grandfather, he is a much better guardian than the Estali family..." Soren said quietly and Kalej couldn't find the courage to agree...
After all, Alkar Estali was the most powerful student at the academy, at least during the time. His family had been great friends with Kalej's father... maybe Soren was speak more about Alkar and Tessen.
"Shouldn't you be at school, Master Soren?" Kalej asked and his master's eyes flashed, "No, my young student... Tessen has removed me for the time being, I am ashamed, but with Alkar under his wing, I could not possible defeat them both." he said quietly, and Kalej could not understand what he was talking about. "You mean... you don't know about the seizure of the school?" Soren inquired and Kalej nodded, his insight was perfected. He knew exactly what was happening.
"Thread of pandemonium, the return of Divara..." he said quietly and Soren could only nod, "Indeed... Tessen has mastered the techniques passed down by the first Magus himself, and now he mocks the Sho'duka name..." and with that statement Kalej could only fear for his friend... D'ka Narazan...Rajion, Ranmayaku, Ivy, Reigi, Shiri, Ryan...the seven Sho'duka were the most powerful warriors ever to walk the earth. So it was... that Alkar would be fighting against someone...
"I will go to Drakes, and fend of Alkar for you!" Kalej said and Soren seemed taken aback. "Can you win?" he asked and Kalej looked out of the window and he could see a start shining in the distance. "I wont loose... not this time."
